Marketing on Youtube: The Basics

When companies make videos on their Youtube channel, are they really trying to entertain us? No, it is just another form of marketing to them. However, they can make some pretty entertaining videos at times. According to the 2016 Social Media Marketing Workbook, these companies are trying to market themselves through viral marketing. Basically trying to make a viral video that they can put their companies name on. Well, I guess I could have used this chapter before I attempted to make a video for a Flag Football program  for my internship over the summer.
Anyway, companies use YouTube for their marketing plans in three ways.
1). Supportive Videos
You can make YouTube videos that just support your company. When companies use this, they are basically using YouTube as a hosting platform instead of a promotional system. This category is where my video would be under. It was meant to show prospects our many different flag football programs that we had.

2). Search/ SEO
You can also make videos that will fall under a persons need. Basically, Your company can make videos that people will need to search for when they are in need. For example. Schwinn makes a video on how to change a bike tier. Therefore, anyone who needs a tier changed, can just search on YouTube and find the official Schwinn "How to" video.

3). Share/Viral
You can also make videos that have a chance to go viral. These videos will need to have emotional content that can make someone watch it. For example, A soda company records people choosing between their soda over a competitors soda. Of course some humor might be involved, but that is what makes it viral.

Hope this helps anyone that needs to make a video for an internship, or job.

The F2 to the Rescue

Boredom is a state at which all of us are in at some point of the day. Being a Senior in college, I take a look back at all of the bored hours of "what to do now" after finishing my homework and I wish I had made this discovery sooner. Being an avid sports fan, anything to do with sports gets me out of my prison of boredom. One day on Youtube, I saw a page called the F2 Freestylers. I noticed the name from videos of them collaborating with other You-tubers, but never went to their actual page. I can tell you, one click and you are out of boredom.
The F2 Freestylers are soccer freestyle kings. They are two friends whose careers kind of blended together to form the F2. Their videos consist of soccer highlights that show off their amazing ability, and as well as some Q&A videos for their fans. But I highly suggest you take a look at their amazing soccer videos. They have done videos with some world class players such as Lionel Messi, Kevin DeBruyne, and even the legend himself, Pele. So next time you are bored, take a look at the F2 page. Just remember, save a couple videos for the next time you are bored.

Final Four: The End of the Madness

The Final Four is set. South Carolina, North Carolina, Oregon, and Gonzaga are the last four teams left in this great tournament. But there is still question that everyone asks. Who will win? Well lets see...
  -South Carolina
The team that no one saw coming out of their region. Well I can assure you this, after watching highlights of this team. They play phenomenal defense, and they get in transition quicker then most teams. Also Frank Martin has established himself as a tactician with all of the adjustments he makes at the half to better improve his teams chances of winning. Playing Gonzaga will be interesting.

  - Gonzaga
Mark Few finally has broken into the final four. With a talented big man down low in Przemek Karnowski and skilled wings like Nigel Williams-Goss and Jordan Williams. This Gonzaga team is a great fundamentally sound team. Their matchup with South Carolina will be a good one.

  - North Carolina
Is this a team of redemption? After loosing on a last second shot in the final game, this North Carolina will have a chip on their shoulder to play hard and get back to the promised land denied last year. Look for Joel Berry to play out of his mind in their matchup against Oregon.

  - Oregon
The Ducks are back in the Final Four for the first time in 78 years. Led by Veteran Dillion Brooks and Mr. March Tyler Dorsey,  Oregon is looking to shock the world and stun North Carolina and play for the school's second title.

The Unique Twitter-sphere

The 2016 Social Media Marketing Workbook states that Twitter is the most open of all the social media sites. To me this did not sound right, because if we are talking about being open then I thought that Youtube would be the most open since they are all videos. But as I continued to read through the book it made more sense. Here are the two reasons that made me switch my opinion.
1). The first way that Twitter is the most open is that anyone can set up a Twitter account. I recently made my fourth Twitter account, and it only took me a minute flat. Within two minutes I could begin tweeting. Anyone can do this, even my 60 year old mom. This basically allows anyone to talk on Twitter. Good thing we can choose not to listen.
2). Twitter is really noisy. All over Twitter, people are posting different kinds of information. These can be news related posts, memes, short video clips, etc. this is what makes twitter so open. Facebook deals with friends and family and having fun with your followers. Instagram deals with pictures. Twitter is its own thing, kind of like a campfire conversation between friends with three TVs in the background. One TV plays the news, one TV plays ESPN, and one TV plays Comedy Central.

With this in mind, next time your on Twitter, realize you are on the most open social media site.

Arsenal Fan TV: The Voice of the Gooners

Arsenal F.C., one of the biggest clubs in England and in Europe. Their nickname, the Gunners. However if you are a fan or follower of this club you are called a Gooner. The Gooners have a voice via Arsenal Fan TV. Arsenal Fan TV has its own website as well as several social media accounts such as Twitter and Instagram, But their best platform is Youtube. What is so unique about this account is that is strictly about the fans.  All the videos are the most passionate fans of the club giving their opinion of Arsenal. They can speak out about a transfer, a dominant win, a horrible loss, or anything about Arsenal. All of the interviews are lead by Robbie Lyle, a fellow die hard Gooner.
What makes this account so special is that they travel with the team as well. Arsenal Fan TV follows Arsenal all around England to every road game. Do not think that is the only place that they follow the great club to. Arsenal Fan TV also travels around Europe following Arsenal as they play in UEFA Champions League. This season  they have followed Arsenal to Bulgaria, France, Switzerland, and Germany. These fans would follow Arsenal to the ends of the Earth if they had too, and if I had to guess, Robbie and Arsenal Fan TV would be there right next to them.
If you want an in-depth look at the passion of a English football club, go to Youtube and watch a couple of the interviews, not only are they interesting, they are hilarious.

NCAA March Madness: Who will win?

Ladies and Gentleman, the time has come. The NCAA Tournament is upon us, and this year might be one of the most legendary tournaments we have seen in a while. This year, like many other years does not have a distinct favorite to win it all. However this years field is the most even it has ever been in my opinion. There are a couple of teams that really catch my eye, and I believe can win the whole thing.

#1. UCLA BRUINS
Just remember this name, Lonzo Ball. Ball is the engine that drives this UCLA team. With skilled shooters such as Bryce Alford, Isaac Hamilton, Aaron Holiday, TJ Leaf, and Thomas Welsh, Ball has the capability of being an assist mastermind because no one has court vision like Lonzo Ball. By the way Ball is no slouch when it comes to shooting himself. He shoots 45% from behind the arc. The Bruins are my favorite to win the tournament this year.

#2 ARIZONA WILDCATS
Sean Miller has a very talented team in his pocket out in the desert. Allonzo Trier and Lauri Markkanen have played tremendous this year even beating UCLA two put of three times. If not UCLA it is Arizona that is going to win it all. (there is a chance that they will play in the Final)

#3 VILLANOVA WILDCATS
Last years champ emerges as my third favorite. Led by Josh Hart and Kris Jenkins and Jay Wright at the helm, Villanova has a great chance to repeat.

Who will you Choose!

LinkedIn, A Summary

When I first came to Ohio Northern, I heard all of my professors talking about LinkedIn. LinkedIn, what is that? I did not even know what that was, not one teacher from my high school never mentioned this website at all. So for all those out there that do not know what LinkedIn is, here is a little summary about this great business website courtesy of The Social Media Marketing Workbook.
LinkedIn is basically a 24/7 networking event. That being said, here is how the website works.

- Everyone Has Their Own Profile.
These profiles are basically the online resume for oneself. You are allowed to "connect" with many different people as well as different companies. Your profile can basically show anyone you connect with, who you are and what you have accomplished as a business professional. You can also see what ever they post and you can communicate with them via LinkedIn messaging. Their profile will also have posts and news feed capabilities.

- Groups Are A Thing
Unlike Facebook's groups, LinkedIn groups are available to join by topic. The SMMW gives examples like Petroleum Engineering and Word Press Web Design. These groups are separately available mainly to people and not business pages.

- Companies Can Have LinkedIn Pages
Just like Facebook, Companies are available to create pages on LinkedIn. They can post on their own personal news feeds and posts. These companies can also follow other companies. This allows them to converse with other companies. Any posts made by the companies can show up on the news feeds of their followers.

Hope this gives you a basic knowledge of LinkedIn, they honestly help with making you look like a professional.

Ohio State Football, Give Them a Follow on Snapchat

In all honesty, who isn't a fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes. I mean, when it comes fall, my blood pressure spikes in anticipation for that first kickoff at The Shoe. My dream is to one day work for the Buckeyes, where I would be able to personally get that feeling of being a Buckeye. Until then, the best way to get a personal look into the program that we all love, is to follow them on Snapchat.             Their Snapchat shows you an in-depth look at the football program. Everything from running onto the field, to the off season dunk contest with the players, is covered by their Snapchat. The person who runs their Snapchat will take you into the locker room to see how the players are getting pumped up for their game. Sometimes, they even take you into the coaches prep room to see the coaching staff preparing their strategy before they take the field. The coolest thing about the Buckeyes Snapchat is seeing the players warm up and seeing how they come up to the camera and give you, the fans, a little feel about being a Buckeye. Urban Meyer even gets into the mix sometimes with some commentary about the game and how the Buckeyes dominated. Vary rarely does he have to say I'm sorry to the fans.
I have been following them on Snapchat for the past year, and I can tell you that it was the best decision I have made as a Buckeye fan.

How to Come Back from the Dead: Barcelona's Historic Comeback

What happens when you are down by four goals in UEFA Champions League? Most teams will never know what to do, besides try and fight back. At maximum effort, these teams usually are able to cut it down to a two goal lead, at most. But that was not the case on March 9th, 2017. On this date, Barcelona faced Paris St. Germain (PSG). The Score, PSG 4 Barcelona 0 (on aggregate). The first leg was dominated by the Ligue 1 giants led by Angel DiMaria's brace. Barcelona looked lethargic, and in all honestly they looked defeated. The second leg would be held in Barcelona, at Camp Nou. This advantage turned out to aid Barcelona in their come back.
Right from the kickoff, Barcelona pressed PSG to their breaking point. This resulted in Barcelona scoring their first goal in the 3rd minute coming by Luis Suarez's point blank header. As PSG began to fight back and hold the three goal lead, Barcelona broke through once again. This time coming from an own goal from PSG right back Layvin Kurzawa in the 40' minute. At halftime, PSG still held a two goal lead on aggregate.  The story was the same in the second half. In the first five minutes, Barcelona winger Neymar drew a penalty in which superstar Lionel Messi converted to cut the lead to one. 12 minutes later, PSG was able to score the ever so needy away goal by Edinson Cavani. This crucial goal now meant that Barcelona would have to outright win the game by a score of 6-5. This is due to the away goal rule in which the result of a tie, the winner would be determined by which team scored the most away goals. Since PSG won 4-0 at home, and having scored the away goal at Barcelona, would mean they would win the game even if Barcelona scored two more goals.
Now, fast forward to 88th minute. The score is still 3-1. Only two minutes plus stoppage time was in the way of PSG advancing to the second round of the UEFA Champions League. A free kick is rewarded to Barcelona. Neymar steps up to the ball... and rips a shot near post. The ball gracefully enters the goal. Barcelona is now only down by one, still needing two. When play is resumed, Barcelona presses PSG. After stealing the ball away from PSG, a ball is played to Louis Suarez. The PSG defender fouls Suarez in the box and results in another penalty for Barcelona. The penalty was then converted by Neymar. As the Camp Nou erupted with emotion, one more goal was needed in order for Barcelona to win. Play was started once more, and PSG was pressed so hard, it looked like they were getting squeezed by a hydraulic press. They turned the ball over. Barcelona had one more chance to score the game winning goal. Neymar played a ball into the box. Substitute Sergi Roberto was seen making a wonder-run in the box. Diving at the ball, Roberto was able to get a foot on the ball. The ball then glided into the back of the net, Barcelona had done the impossible. The players charged the pitch rejoicing in the greatest comeback ever.

I hope everyone who reads this is able to understand the terms used since they were soccer terms. Please watch the highlights, they are a lot better then my interpretation. And nothing beats the sound of the crowd when that 6th goal was scored.

Some Tips for Podcasting...

As I wrapped up my first podcast, I thought to myself, "I wish I would have had some tips that would have made that experience a whole lot easier". So if anybody out there is trying to start a podcast, here are some tips.

- Sound Confident
When you are talking, always try and sound confident. This makes you sound experienced, even though you might not be.

- Have a List of Questions
If you are interviewing someone, have your list of questions right next to you. Having these near you basically allows for you to have an outline for your podcast and will make sure you do not forget to ask any of your questions.

- Practice, Practice, Practice
Yes, this might sound typical, but you need to practice what you are going to say. The more you practice, the better you sound. The better you sound, the probability of your podcast getting more views skyrockets.

- Have fun
Last but not least, have fun. Do not go into the podcast stressed out or nervous. Have fun, sound natural. In the end you are just talking.

Hope this helps,

Until Next Time,
